LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 22 S, L, LR. S# S4018. Bbl. 24" tapered octagon. Bead front sight w/ elevator adj. rear sight & combination tang sight. Full length tubular mag. w/ button type tube lock. Action has no. 1 style engraving. Left side vignette features a squirrel on a tree-branch. Balance of left side & right sideplate have vine type foliate scroll w/ punch dot backgrounds that extend to upper & lower edges of receiver that are highlighted by straight line & fancy borders. Top tang is marked w/ 2 stars. The book Marlin Firearms by Lt. Col. William S. Brophy discusses the stars placed on the tang were done the first few years after the 1921 buyout. This marking indicated the gun to be "as near perfection as the finest of materials, equipment & skill can make it.". Blue finished bbl. & mag. tube w/ case colored hammer & lever. Action & forearm cap are gold finished. Forearm & S curved pistol grip stock of nicely grained black walnut have style B checkering w/ Marlin trademark in toeline. LOP: 13 1/4" over checkered hard rubber buttplate. CONDITION: near excellent as restored & refinished, retaining over 98% restored blue & case colored finish. Action retains nearly all case colored finish. Wood has a very good oil refinish showing a few small marks w/ series of dents on forearm. Bore retains lightly worn rifling.
