EUROPEAN FLINTLOCK PISTOL WITH FLARED BRASS BARREL
AND BRASS LOCKPLATE. Cal. 540 Rifled Bore. NSN. Bbl. 7". Brass bbl. has shaped & molded breech section which transitions from wedding band to rnd. w/ flared muzzle. Lock w/ rounded brass plate & integral rnd. pan fitted w/ rnd. body serpentine cock, unbridled friction frizzen & file decorated feather spring w/ fancy foliate finial. Elm or beech wood stock w/ birds head grip extends to muzzle w/ horn tip & is pinned to bbl. Hardware is of brass. Trigger guard has fancy finial. Long sideplate has matching finial & buttcap is cast in form of wild boars head. Stock carved w/ raised fields at rear of lock & sideplates along w/ flowers & scrolls behind bbl. tang. There is incised line carving around trigger guard finial & ramrod channel. CONDITION: good, brass w/ old cleaning & scattered marks is toning to gold. Iron parts cleaned to silver & gray. Stock retains most of an old finish stock is sound except for a 1 1/2" crack running from front of lock toward bbl. channel. Mechanically good. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti.
