EXCEPTIONAL RUBY GLASS AMBROTYPE OF PHILIP

HUEBNER, CO. B 2ND TEXAS INFANTRY. This wonderful ninth plate crystal clear crisp ambrotype shows Philip seated wearing homespun shell jacket, Colt revolver in belt & rare Texas made rectangular "star" buckle, (plate 292 of Mullinax, rarity 9/10). The buckle worn in image is of style excavated in areas occupied by Texas troops in both eastern & western theaters. The example pictured in Mullinax was found near where the 2nd TX was at Vicksburg. Philip was wounded & taken prisoner at Vicksburg but paroled & went back to Texas garrisoning Galveston till end of war. This image & a few other family photos were found recently in estate sale near the Huebner homestead & from family descendent. His image & ambrotype of his wife & a couple of 1899 albumens have penciled IDs as does the old Christmas card box ambros were stored. Philip Huebner (1840-1889) born in Baden, Germany & immigrated to TX w/ his family as a child. He entered service as a corporal in August, 1861 & served w/ 2nd Texas Infantry at battle of Shiloh, Corinth, & Vicksburg & later recruited & garrisoned at Galveston. He signed Parole of Honor June 21, 1865, Houston, TX. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: sixth plate ambrotype of Henrietta Huebner, 2 albumen photos of Henrietta ^ 2 children at "Huebner homestead" in Houston, box that contained images, sm. file of research. CONDITION: ambrotype of Huebner is very fine, case has cracked hinge, other images good overall, hinge broken on Henrietta’s sixth plate case. (02-17428/JS). $4,000-6,000.
