LIGHTWEIGHT 12 BORE GAME GUN OF STUNNING ARTISTIC QUALITY. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 5/8" (65mm). S# 6358. Bbls. 28 1/4". This fascinating high art lightweight game gun w/ swamped rib & engraved front ramp on bbls. w/ sm. front white bead. Bbls. marked on top of tubes "FABRICA DE J. MUGURUZA E HIJOS EIBAR/ CANONES WHITWORTH". Deeply carved ring of relief flowers at breech end. Bbls. are of chopper lump construction & polished flats have proof marks & maker information. Splinter forend checkered in point pattern w/ diamond at center. Relief carved irons & has Anson type pushbutton release. French gray full sidelock action engraved in incredible deep relief full coverage. Left sidelock w/ hunters & pack of dogs bringing down a wild boar in deep relief at center & running stags towards front. Bottom of action w/ deeply carved relief Diana Goddess of the hunt w/ deeply relief carved floral leaf pattern throughout. Right sidelock w/ pointer & setter in woods scene, running rabbit all in deep relief w/ flying quail at front of sidelock. There are 2 carved rabbits adjacent to water table & 1 leaping rabbit ahead of sidelock, all very nicely relief carved. Polished water table w/ proof marks & S#. Bbl. fences deep relief carved w/ deer on right, eagle on left & are beaded w/ side clips. Top of action w/ relief carved pheasant, top lever w/ relief carved stag & pierced at thumb point w/ carved Cupid. Top tang also carved in relief w/ mythical head in front of carved safety slide & also gold inlaid "SEGURO". Gun made w/ double trigger, auto ejectors & auto safety. Trigger guard w/ relief carved floral pattern at front. 2 Dogs in game scene hunting a fox on bow. Pheasant at front of tang & geese in marsh scene towards grip area all in very high quality deep relief pattern. Exhibition quality highly figured European walnut buttstock checkered in 4 point pattern through the wrist w/ carved tear drops behind sidelocks. Has silver shield near toe w/ initials "J.A.G." & terminates w/ a nicely appointed skipline checkered butt. DAC: 1 1/2". DAH: 2 3/8". LOP: 14". Right: Bore diameter: .729. Restriction: .026 (mod). Stocks are sound w/ minor handling marks & a few light scratches near butt, particularly left side & retains nearly all of what appears to be its original factory finish w/ an area or 2 of finish added behind right lock & subsequent thinning. Engraving is all sharp & crisp throughout. Right bore w/ scattered patches of beginning pitting which should polish out easily. Left bbl. mostly bright & shiny w/ light patches of orange peel. Gun is tight & on face. Mechanics are crisp and this gun represent an extraordinary functional work of art that can be appreciated by anyone. Research shows Muguruza was active in Eibar up until 1896 & this gun exhibits museum quality workmanship in every aspect.
