RUBBERIZED DRILL CLOTH HOLSTER FOR THE MODEL 1911 PISTOL. These holsters were developed in 1932 to serve as a substitute for the leather holster for the 1911 or 1911A1 pistol. This holster is sample #3 made of double rubberized drill cloth. The holster is referenced on pages 423-431 of the book U.S. MILITARY HOLSTERS AND RELATED ACCOUTREMENTS by Edward Scott Meadows. Approximately only 54 of these holsters were fabricated at Rock Island Arsenal. This example has the second drain hole. The flap is fitted with a lift the dot fastener and has an ink marking underneath the flap, "H-73' / HOLSTER PISTOL" / "WEB OD" / "WITH HOOK ATTACHMENT".The holster is made with a webbed pad stitched inside. CONDITION: holster is in very good condition with very light wear and staining. Stitching is tight. There is a sm. notable amount of scuffing on the back side below the belt hook webbing.
