EXTREMELY DECORATED CURLY MAPLE CARVED RIFLE

ATTRIBUTED TO ZACHARIAH ALBRIGHT. Cal. 45. NSN. Bbl. 43 1/2" full oct., 58" overall. This rifle has a 4 piece brass engraved patchbox w/ 11 piercings & 21 silver inlays. Rifle has a 5 1/4" pierced saddle plate & a 4 3/4" brass toeplate w/ 4 piercings. The unmarked flintlock has dbl. set triggers. The stock is incise carved to the rear of the cheekpiece & there is a silver 8-pointed star inlay on the cheekpiece. The brass sideplate has 4 piercings. This is a highly decorated rifle. Albright worked circa 1819-27 in Haines TWP, Centre county. He had a son, Zachariah Jr. who was a gunsmith in Illinois. CONDITION: very good overall as reconverted from percussion back to flintlock, lock & breech are re-browned to blend w/ rest of bbl. Brass & silver insets all appear original & well fit, stock is sound w/ hand worn patina, 2 sm. insets at lock & glue break repair of break in forestock through 3rd bbl. key from muzzle.
