MODEL THUER DERRINGER PISTOL. Cal. 41 RF. S# 414. Bbl. 2 1/2". 1 of only approx. 2,000 First Type Third Model Thuer derringer pistols mfg. by Colt. Top of the bbl. is marked "-COLT-". Brass frame features its distinct early pattern sharp curve grip frame profile, with bolster around bbl. screw, and 2-piece plain wood bird's head grips. High spur hammer. Fixed German silver blade front sight. All serialized parts are matching, and include the frame (beneath left grip panel), bbl. (underside), as well as the grips, which are matching via a handwritten "414" in black ink on the interior of the panels. CONDITION: frame retains traces of its original plated finish in protected areas (beneath grips), with the balance having acquired a mellow patina. Steel parts have faded to gray patina, with scattered spots of age related discoloration and light pitting. Bore exhibits a consistent scattering of mild to moderate pitting, while retaining good rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some superficial marks, small impressions, and small spots of flaking, but otherwise remain sound. An extremely early example of a Colt Third Model Thuer derringer, that show showcases all the typical "First Type" features. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of William Pirie Co-Author of "Variations of Colt's New Model Police & Pocket Breech Loading Pistols". (01-30003/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
