EXTREMELY FINE & HIGH GRADE DOUBLE BARREL HALF
STOCK PERCUSSION DOUBLE RIFLE. Cal. 38 bore (about 50 cal). NSN. 40 3/4" Overall. Bbls. 25” twist oct. to rnd. w/ full length rib engraved "1853" below gold trademark. Rear sight is fixed notch w/ folding leaves front & back. Front blade sight is dovetailed into rib. Steel ramrod w/ German silver holed tip attached, single thimble w/ same damascene finish as bbls. w/ attached sling ring. Patent breeches have raised florally engraved platinum blow outs. Breeches have integral curved high fences. Breeches & bbl. tang finely engraved w/ full coverage of dog’s head & duck in flight w/ English style scrolls. Locks are fitted w/ flat serpentine hammers that are finely engraved. Locks are beautifully engraved w/ dogs & pheasant w/ feathered borders, & “LARDINOIS A LIEGE”. Multiple scroll triggerguard is fire blued w/ finely engraved scene of deer on trigger bow. Case colored & engraved trigger plate terminates into branched feathered finial. Butt plate tang is engraved en suite w/ a running canine. Beautiful & unusual figured stock w/ high gloss varnish w/ cheek piece, sling ring rear of triggerguard & engraved fire blued winged keyway escutcheons. Nicolas Charles Lardinois worked from 1850-1862. He won a medal at the Exhibition of London in 1851 for a target rifle. He had 12 patents from 1850-1869, several concerning rifles. CONDITION: near excellent. Bbls. retain over most of a thin damascene brown striping. Locks, hammers, breeches & trigger plate retain much of their muted case colors. Trigger guard, buttplate, keyway escutcheons, & nosecap retain most all of their original bright blue. Stock retains most all of its original high polish varnish w/ many sm. cosmetic blemishes especially in top of comb. Mechanics are crisp & rifled bores are mirror bright. (01-17281/JS).
