EXTREMELY RARE 1ST MODEL NORTH & CHENEY 1799

CONTRACT FLINTLOCK PISTOL. Cal. 69. S#219. 500 pistols contracted March 9, 1799, marking the 1st contract for American martial pistols in long line of federal contracts to come. This is one of only five survivors. An additional 1500 pistols contracted in 1800 (2nd models). There are only 27 documented original & authentic survivors of both types. This pistol serial number 219 was one of the first documented with long collection history. Our first martial pistol was copy of the worldwide used French model 1777 dragoon pistol. American version is stamped on bottom of brass frame "S. NORTH & E. CHENEY BERLIN", barrel is proofed with “V” near breech. Serial number is observed internally on barrel, breech plug, & frame. CONDITION: Very good condition overall, gun is original and complete with exception of restored cock & ramrod as documented from Jim Wertenberger’s notes from 1950s. Markings are excellent, smooth iron patina, brass toned light mustard patina. Stock has old wood plug repair and inset on right side & refinished. Mechanically functionable, clean clear bore. This is rare opportunity to find a fine North & Cheney, especially one of only 5 surviving 1st models.
