EXTREMELY RARE DUFIHLO CONFEDERATE CAVALRY

OFFICER’S SABER. This is one of only 2 known Dufihlo, New Orleans made “pelican feeding young” w/ C & S motif w/ extra branches. It is most unusual utilizing a pattern 1796 British blade & scabbard. Cavalry officer who carried this sword wanted a heavy blade. It is quite possible that the officer had Dufihlo update family sword, maybe a sword captured from the British in the war of 1812. Regardless, this is a wonderful original sword w/ a rich collection history & has been published in several books. PROVENANCE: Ex Art Fry collection; ex Kevin Hoffman collection; pictured in Shannon Pritchard’s “Collecting the Confederacy”; pictured page 222 Richard Bezdek’s “Swords of the Civil War”; Lee Gray collection. CONDITION: very good overall, all original & complete, brass hilt & pommel have dark smooth chocolate/dark mustard patinas. Grip wrap is complete w/ scuffing partially exposed cord at top, original twisted wire was broken & repaired during period of use.
