EXTREMELY SCARCE CZECH VZ 33 POLICE DIRECTORATE

MARKED BOLT ACTION CARBINE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 208. Bbl. 19 3/8". Tangent rear sight graduated to 1,000 meters. Inverted V front sight w/ protective ears. Receiver ring is marked on the left side "Policejni reditelstvi Brno". Marked on top w/ crisp "rampant lion" crest. Right side is marked w/ "rampant lion" acceptance mark. "E rampant lion 35". Left receiver rail is marked "Cs.ZBROJOVKA AKC.SPOLVBRNE VZ33". These carbines were mfg. w/ a slightly smaller receiver ring but retained the step of the Model 1898 type receivers & had numerous lightening cuts w/ a hollow bolt knob thus making a light handy carbine for police & other paramilitary groups. These carbines were the basis of the German G33/40 carbine used to arm mountain troops. All milled furniture. Bayonet bar & cleaning rod are present. Bottom swivels, lower band has additional sling loop on left side. Trigger guard made w/out locking screws. Flat buttplate w/ trap. Matching walnut stock set w/ grasping grooves & unmarked steel identity disk. Buttstock is marked on left rear w/ "POLICEJNI REDITELSTVI BRNO" & "208" to match receiver. Buttstock has several shallow period "BORED SOLDIER" initials on both sides. CONDITION: stock set has legible markings w/ original finish & added finish period w/ the wear, staining & handling marks typical of a well used service rifle. Forend has sm. crack on top extending from rear sight to lower band. Metal has traces of original blue turning to overall gray w/ wear & handling marks plus sm. spots of oxidation. Front sight protective ears are bent slightly inward. Bore has strong lands w/ lightly oxidized appearance turning dark in grooves. (23-32/RW). CURIO. $900-1,200.
