EXTREMELY SCARCE REMINGTON MODEL 1903 FACTORY

CUTAWAY BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. NSN. Bbl. 24". These rare rifles were sectionalized by the Rem. factory to show the inner workings of the 1903 rifles they were producing. The rifles were used for training & demonstration purposes. There were very few produced & most were scrapped or given away post war. Interestingly the rifles appear normal when viewed from the right side except for the extractor. The sectionalization was done on the left side & shows both operational & assembly features. These rifles were reportedly made from out of spec., rejected parts but were nicely finished. Their receiver markings were removed but interestingly the bbl. is marked normally w/ "RA" flaming bomb & 6-42. The flaming bomb has the center punched proof mark. The only other parts markings are the sm. "R" on the bolt sight parts, etc. Stock marked at the bottom of each end, trigger guard w/ "SCRAP". Rifle has all milled furniture except for the fine checkered stamped buttplate. Walnut stock & handguard, straight grip stock mfg. w/ 2 recoil bolts. Buttstock marked on right side w/ "CW" in flaming bomb. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 2 FA 54 head stamped dummy cartridges. CONDITION: stock set has very pleasing appearance w/ light wear & scattered handling marks. Has notable abrasion forward of lower band. Metal has mix of wartime gray parkerizing & blue finishes w/ light high point wear. Bore is in near excellent condition. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Kenneth Horn (Grandson of JC Higgins). (22-389/RW). CURIO. $1,500-2,250.
