Early American Eaglehead Officer's Sword, Revolutionary War to War of 1812 era. The wide 31'' curved blade has a single wide fuller on both sides, undecorated, with a faint stamped maker's mark on the back spine in small cursive letters of ''J L & P''. Smooth brass guard has a rounded quillion and ''D''-shaped knuckle bow, and brass eagle head pommel with original peened tang showing through the top. Grip is bone with spiral grooves carved into it. Black leather scabbard is very sound with three incised brass fittings. Condition is very good for its age, the blade showing a dark mottled patina of light rust stains, minor pitting, and patches of heavier rust. Slight bend to the tip area. Guard and pommel have a dark uncleaned patina to the brass. Original leather blade washer is present. Bone grip is in excellent condition showing only light marks from use and normal age. Guard and pommel are tight, with only the slightest movement in the grip. Scabbard shows age, scuffs, cracking, and one small gouge to the leather, but all the stitching is intact. Scabbard fittings show dents, dings, and evidence of cleaning, with a darker patina on the front side from display on a wall. Est.: $500-$750. (John Ackerman collection)
