Early Colt Model 1860 Army Single Action Percussion Revolver, #7794, .44 cal., 8" barrel with German silver blade front and fixed rear sights, unfluted 6-shot cylinder, blue and case hardened finish with iron rear and brass front straps, one-piece smooth walnut grips. Mfg'd 1861 1861. Revolver is in good overall condition with an even dark patina. Barrel show areas of light pinprick pitting with a slightly reduced front sight and a good legible barrel address. There is considerable knackering around the wedge channel on both sides. Frame is a dark brown patina with a legible "COLTS PATENT" on the left side. Gun is cut for stock with a desirable 4-screw frame. Cylinder is a dark brown patina with intermittent light to moderate pitting around the entire diameter; there is no visible cylinder scene remaining with a legible Colt Patent line and serial number. There is a capping groove on the right side. Revolver shows all matching visible serial numbers, except the wedge, which is a mismatched period replacement. Safety pins are hammered flat while the nipples are intact and strong. Rear grip strap is iron and the front strap and trigger guard are brass. Front strap and trigger guard have been cleaned. Grips are good with no visible cartouches noted. There are chips at the toes of both panels and small mars consistent with service use. Action works well and the timing is good; bore is fair with roughness, light intermittent pitting, and visible rifling. Lot includes a Colt factory letter confirming all features and indicating the revolver was shipped to the U.S. Government, Capt. R.W.K. Whitely Commanding New York Arsenal, Governor's Island, N.Y. c/o Colonel D.D. Tompkins Assistant Quartermaster General U.S. Army 6 State St., New York, N.Y. July 29, 1861, with 500 guns in shipment. This is an honest early Civil War era Colt shipped the week after Bull Run. Est.: $2,000-$2,500. (Antique)
