Early Marlin Model 39 Lever Action Takedown Rifle, #S4702, .22 S-L-LR cal., 24" octagon barrel with full-length magazine, blue and color case hardened finish, smooth walnut forend and pistol grip stock, ending with a checkered plastic Marlin marked buttplate, factory dovetailed ivory tipped blade front sight, and semi-buckhorn rear sight with elevator. Marked with a "(star)" on the upper tang. Mfg'd circa 1925-26. Rifle is in near excellent overall condition, retaining approx. 96%-97% factory blue, with a crisp barrel address, light wear at the muzzle, small marks along top of the barrel, and high point edge wear. Receiver displays considerable smoky gray color case hardened finish, with minor handling marks, and a few patches of frosted patina. Stock is fine, with scattered light indentations consistent with field use, a little thinning to the finish on the forend, and trade mark black and white Marlin "Bullseye" under the buttstock. Action is crisp and functions smoothly. Bore is bright with well-defined rifling. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (C&R)
