Early Randall Knife Number 1 Fighter, with booklet and photo, with 8'' blade, marked at ricasso ''Randall Made, Orlando, FLA''. Stacked leather washer handle with five alternating thick and thin spacers at the hilt and three thick and thin spacers at the pommel. Thick aluminum pommel with brass nut and washer, with no thong hole or loop. Brass crossguard with double ends. Blade measures 7.75'' in length and has the typical deep choil at the base and is very sharp. Sheath is original to the knife and made by Heiser, marked on back with the oval Heiser trademark stamp, a ''1'' above, and an ''8'' below the oval stamp. Back of sheath is ribbed as on early Heiser sheaths up to the very early 1950's. Sharpening stone is a grooved, dark reddish brown color and is unmarked. Randall booklet is the sixth printing, dated 1952. Photo shows a U.S. Paratrooper in uniform with parachute harness and his helmet; name and soldier's serial number are on the back. Condition is very good with blade showing light age graying, sharpening, and scratches from use. Stone pouch snap is blackened brass. Retaining strap is missing the snap cover and shows much age and cracking. Sheath has a couple of small cuts one on the front, and one on the back near the tip. Knife probably dates from 1946 to 1952, as it has all the correct characteristics for a post-WWII to Korean War Randall Number 1. Est.: $800-$1,400.
