Early Remington No. 1 Sporter Rolling Block Single Shot Rifle, #5166, .44-77 Sharps cal., 30" heavy octagon barrel, blue and color case hardened finish, smooth walnut straight grip stock and forend, with a smooth color case hardened steel buttplate. Dovetailed steel tipped blade front sight and replacement "V"-notch rear sight. Stamped "44 S" on the underside of the barrel. Rifle is in good overall condition, displaying an untouched, mottled brown patina on the barrel, with sharp edges and areas of light surface erosion. There is knackering around the replacement rear sight. Receiver displays a mottled appearance with silvered color case hardened finish drifting to dark gray. The patent dates on the left side of the receiver remain legible. There are two vacant holes on the tang from an old peep sight. Stock is in good condition with an iron collar at the front of the forend. Wood shows smoothing and wear, with indentations and scratches consistent with years of use. Action functions well and locks up securely. Bore is fair with moderate erosion and areas of shallow pitting with defined rifling. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
