Early Rod Bayonet Model 1903 Springfield Bolt Action Rifle, #28322, .30-03 cal., 24-1/8'' barrel, blue finish, fingergroove walnut stock, with smooth steel buttplate. Early front and rear sight, with ramrod bayonet. Receiver area marked with ''S'' (Stembridge), as this rifle's barreled action was found in the 1950s by our consignor for sale at M.B. Rettings in Culver City, CA. Stock was later obtained in a similar fashion from another source; upper handguard was handmade to match. Condition is excellent. Metal parts retain approx. 96% blue. Rear sight band with approx. 60% toning blue. Stock was found with longitudinal crack along bottom edge, which has long been repaired. Front barrel band is modified from a regular '03. Early sling shows some crazing and wear near button and claw. Action is good, bore is fine. Early blue steel stamped sight cover is retained. Stembridge was a movie firearms rental company started in the early 1900s. Est.: $6,000-$8,000. (C&R)
