Early WWII Nazi Municipal Police Officer's Dress Bayonet, with scabbard and frog. This Weimar era bayonet was shortened to conform with the new Nazi regulations. The 13'' blade features a single wide fuller on both sides and is marked with a stamped Alex Coppel ''scale'' logo on one side and stamped logo and letters ''Alexander Coppel Solingen'' on the other side. There is a small ''(starburst)K'' police proofmark on the back spine. Blade shows some minor rust pitting near the point, but retains almost all of its nickel-plated finish. Eagle pommel and decorated guard show wear to the plated finish and oxidation. There is no push button on the pommel. Guard has unit markings of ''S.Ar.II.1108'' stamped into it, with the upper fitting of the scabbard stamped ''S.Ar.II.1043'' (same unit, different item numbers). Stag grip panels show wear and use and are retained by two aluminum rivets. The aluminum Nazi police emblem is in the center of the front grip and shows some wear. Black leather scabbard body has some old crease marks, scuffs and scratches, but the stitching is all intact. The nickel-plated brass fittings show wear to the plated finish and light use, with an even uncleaned oxidized patina. Black leather frog is the standard Mauser 98 type with stamped maker marks for Reinhold Adam and dated 1939. A good untouched example. Est.: $500-$700. (John Ackerman collection)
