Early Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Takedown Rifle, #18449, .44 W.C.F. cal., 24" octagon barrel, blue finish, color case hardened hammer and lever, smooth walnut straight grip stock and forend with steel nose cap and smooth crescent buttplate, dovetailed Lyman #3 blade front sight, semi-buckhorn rear sight, and adjustable aperture sight added at the tang. Mfg'd 1893, the 2nd year of production. Rifle is in fine overall condition, retaining approx. 65%-70% thinning and toning original blue finish, showing high point edge wear and a few spots of light pitting near the rear sight. Magazine tube is worn to bare metal near the takedown lever. Receiver shows considerable original finish mixed with brown patina, with knackering on both sides around the takedown collar. Lever is dark and most of the case colors on the hammer have toned to silver. Barrel address and other factory lettering are clear. Wood displays an attractive figure, with numerous indentations and impressions consistent with age and use, worse on the right side of the buttstock. Buttplate shows silvered color case hardened finish. Action functions well. Bore with scattered spots of moderate erosion; rifling is clearly defined and rates good overall. Est.: $2,500-$3,000.
