Eli Whitney-Blake U.S. Model 1816 Percussion Musket, #NVSN, .69 cal., smoothbore, 41.5" barrel, no finish, walnut stock, standard blade front sight, manufactured without a rear sight. The rifle was originally flintlock and converted to percussion prior to the Civil War. Lockplate is marked "U.S./P & E. W. BLAKE" with "NEW HAVEN/1827" behind the hammer. Tang is dated "1827". Barrel has a faint "P" proof on top. Barrel length was reduced by approx. .5". Ramrod is correct. Condition is fair. Metal is dark brown overall, with scattered moderate pitting; heavier at the nipple area. Stock has a circled cartouche on the left and carved "H" on the left side, near the buttplate. Stock shows general age and wear, with scattered dents and scratches throughout, heavier on the left flat and right side in front of the middle band. Action works properly. There is moderate rust visible in the bore. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
