'Mississippi Rifle' 1850 dated U.S. military muzzle loading percussion rifle known for it's use in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War. Features a 33" barrel, brass blade front sight, dovetailed rear sight with 'u' notch, smooth trigger, steel ram rod, sling swivels, brass furniture, and smooth walnut straight grip stock with brass buttplate & patch box containing a spare nipple. Markings: Barrel - "US/SM," "V/P" & "1850." Lock - "E. WHITNEY/US" & "N.HAVEN/1850." Stock is marked with two cartouches "JW" & "WAT" and the buttplate is stamped "US." The barrel is in-the-white with scattered pin prick pitting, the furniture displays an aged brass patina and the lock & hammer bear a dark grey patina with some scattered dark rust. Action is sound, the bore appears excellent and the wood stock shows age with some losses to the left side of the barrel & a few small cracks around the action.
