Enfield Pattern 1842 Rifled Musket, (1849), NVSN, .75 cal., 39'' barrel, bright finish, case hardened lockplate and lightly engraved hammer, with deep knurled tip; walnut stock neatly marked ''ICR'' (Indian Continental Railroad) and ''B/(broadarrow)/O''. Left side of stock just above trigger neatly stamped ''C.O. Bircham''; brass buttplate, triggerguard and forend tip, as well as brass ferrules for steel cleaning rod, which is present. Prior to being accessioned to the Indian Continental Railroad, this was the exact type rifle used throughout the Crimean War. Condition is very good. Barrel with moderate carbon spotting overall. Case colored lockplate with visible colors in protected areas, the balance having toned somewhat dark. Nice open grain stock shows light to just moderate scuffs and scratches, with no real cracks or losses. Good functioning lock, bore is good. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
