Excellent Early U.S. Military Smith & Wesson Model of 1917 Double Action Revolver, #2843, .45 ACP/.45 Auto Rim cal., 5-1/2" pinned barrel, blue finish, two-piece smooth walnut grips, round blade front sight and standard square-notched rear sight, lanyard ring, with color case hardened trigger and concentric grooved hammer. Frame and yoke with matching assembly numbers (2050). Barrel, cylinder, and extractor are numbered to the gun. Bottom of the barrel is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". There is an "S" stamped on the bottom of the barrel and back of cylinder. "GHS" inspectors mark on left side of the frame, in front of the hammer. Shipped to U.S. Armory, Nov. 17, 1917; with factory letter signed by S&W Historian Roy G. Jinks. Letter does not mention the revolvers configuration. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 97%-98% factory blue. There are a few light scratches and mild wear at the muzzle. Additional there is a small spot of finish wear to the butt of the gun, caused by the lanyard ring. Case colors are vibrant, and a majority remain. There are a few tiny specks of pitting visible on the back strap. Factory lettering is crisp. Grips are very good with intermittent shallow indentations and other small handling marks. Action cycles smoothly and locks up securely. There is the very beginning stages of some very mild frosting visible in the bore, rifling is clearly defined. Est.: $1,800-$2,400. (C&R/PPT)
