#17599. Engraved double barrel pin-fire hammer gun based on the Le Faucheaux system. Patented by Casimir Lefaucheux in 1835. Made in Sommerda, Germany (Prussia) by Franz Von Dreyse circa 1870. The son of the famous inventor of the Prussian needle fire rifle M/41 Nikolaus von Dreyse. Franz v. Dreyse was born in 1822 and died in 1894. 30 1/4" barrels with dovetailed German silver low-profile front sight blade, flip v-notch rear sight, double set triggers, exposed hammers, bottom lever break-top, one-piece walnut stock with checkered and carved straight wrist, scrolled,carved horn guard behind the ornate triggerguard, shadow line cheekpiece (right-handed shooter) steel buttplate with scroll engraving around the mounting screws, sling swivels. The lock plates, 'rabbit ear' hammers, triggerguard and the metal forearm are fully engraved with intricate floral/scroll designs with pheasants on the right lock, rabbit on the left and hunting dog on the triggerguard. Maker marked on the solid rib. The bores are very good/bright, mechanically excellent, barrels lock-up tight, the barrels have turned a brown patina, the engraving is crisp with fine detail, the wrist checkering is fine, there is a couple of minor chips in the horn and the stock is very good with minor chips/dings, has been varnished at some point. LOP is 14", chokes measure IC.
