RIFLE WITH PAULINE MUERRLE LETTER. Cal. 22 Short. S# 431474A. Bbl. 24" oct. Third model action has No. 8 pattern full coverage factory engraving. Vignette on right side of receiver has upland scene featuring cotton tail rabbits w/ floral backdrop. Left side vignette depicts 2 squirrels in a tree limb setting. Vignettes are surrounded by arabesque scroll engraving & fancy borders that extend to top & bottom of receiver, trigger guard, top tang & breech block. Top tang has open hole for tang sight attachment. Standard length tubular mag. Bead front sight w/ standard V notch sporting rear sight. Grooved slide handle & pistol grip stock of exhibition grade black walnut have outstanding flame grain burl figure. Stock features case colored buttplate w/ engraving at peak, hard rubber grip cap & style "H" hand checkering. 1911 Mfg. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Pauline Muerrle letter dated 6-14-12 providing the following information "In regards to your Winchester Model 1890, serial no. 431474, it has been engraved in the factory No. 8 pattern. This is the squirrels and rabbits pattern. It was engraved by Winchester factory engraver John Ulrich. It is a classic example of Mr. Ulrich's engraving style and is an excellent addition to any Winchester collection". CONDITION: bbl. & mag. tube retain 70% dull lightly faded blue showing edge & carry wear w/ scattered spots of freckling & light surface corrosion. Action retains sm. amounts of original nickel plated finish on breech block, front receiver ring & protected areas of trigger guard w/ balance having cleaned gray appearance showing scattered light pitting. Replacement stock & forearm have good finish. Wrist of stock is cracked along grain lines & is neatly repaired. Action is sound having weak mainspring tension. Lightly pitted bore retains largely intact rifling. (21-237/DS). CURIO. $10,000-15,000.
