This is a rare opportunity to sponsor and a Nevada waterhole project. Every year, the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn cooperatively develop about a half dozen waterholes to help expand desert bighorn populations throughout the state. The waterholes are generally named after prominent landmarks in the vicinity or for people who have made significant contributions to bighorn sheep management in the state. Here is your opportunity to contribute to that ongoing legacy and, in the process, be honored by having your name, or the name of someone you want to honor, permanently attached to that waterhole. Plans are to construct this new development in the spring of 2027 with funds obtained from this special auction item, as well as additional funding. The successful bidder will receive the naming rights to the “Hiko – buyer’s name Waterhole Development” in Nevada’s Hiko Mountain Range, as well as an on-site welcome recognition for family and friends attending the building of this significant project!
The Fraternity of the Desert Bighorn (FDB) started in Las Vegas in 1964 and is the world’s oldest wild sheep conservation group. At that time there were fewer than 2,000 bighorn sheep in Nevada (from historic highs of 30,000). Now there are approximately 14,000 bighorn sheep in the state, more than any other in the lower 48.
Timeframe: Weekend (Sat/Sun) TBD in the spring of 2027. Location: 2 hours north of Las Vegas.
A wonderful opportunity to also visit the Hoover Dam and several national and state parks, including the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce Canyon.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of desert bighorn sheep in the State of Nevada.
