MARKET. Overall length: 11". Blade length: 8". An attractive diamond cross section blade with gilt highlighted etching on a blued field. Etching includes various foliate motifs, a drum and a flag that appears to be striped. Gilded brass oval crossguard with raised hemispheres on a dotted field. Gilded brass ferrule. Carved, oblong, certifiably antique ivory grip. Gilded brass sheath with foliate and geometric engraving. The reverse of the sheath bears the inscription, "Wm King to Wm V Neill". Suspension rings are present. CONDITION: blade has significant amount of gold highlights remaining in the etching and approximately 60% of the blued field remains. Guard retains 80% of original gilded and ferrule shows traces of original finish. Grip has a few scattered age cracks as expected. Sheath retains about 70% of original gilded finish and etching remains clear and sharp. (02-17488/BF). $1,200-1,600.
