SIGHTING PLANE RIB. Cal. 16 Ga. S# FWS20548. (1947). Bbls. 28" have raised matted solid rib, marked �L. C. SMITH FIELD GRADE" on top of right bbl. Bbl. flats stamped w/ grade, S# & proofs, bottoms of bbls. marked "ARMOR STEEL". Casehardened featherweight action has all correct marks on water table & lockplates. Plain American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 5/8" over white line pad. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter forend has J-spring release. Bore diameters: left -.657, restriction: .027 (Mod), right - .658, restriction: .024 (mod). Minimum wall thickness: left -.034, right - .033. DAH: 2 3/8". DAC: 1 7/16". WEIGHT: 7 lbs. 0 oz. CONDITION: fine, w/ evidence of poor storage. Metal parts retain most of their original finishes, considerably rusted & cleaned to stop active rust. Stocks have most of their original varnish, lifted & crazed. Newer pad is poorly fitted. Bores are shiny w/ evidence of a few dents. Mechanically fine. 16 Ga. L. C. Smith's are almost as hard to find as 20 bores w/ 38000 being made vs 30000 in field grade. (20-882/MGM106). CURIO. $300-600.
