FIELD CANNON. Registry #149, 12 pounder. Napoleons were the workhorse of Civil War artillery both North & South. This preeminent light field gun was revolutionizing warfare after being introduced by the French about 10 years prior to the Civil War. The Napoleon replaced almost all other smooth bore field guns. This fine example made by Henry Hooper weighs 1227 pounds, foundry # 159, dated 1863, & inspected by “TJR” (Thomas Jackson Rodman). This cannon for many years was part of a memorial to Union Veterans in Dunsmore Cemetery. Hank Williams, Jr fired it on television when in his collection for 30 years.
