Cal. 44. S# 78056. Standard configuration w/ 8” rnd. bbl. w/ 1 line New York address. This gun was made in 1862 during the peak of Colt production for military contracts. This example however is civilian w/ no inspector cartouches & original civilian varnished grips. Many of the parts including trigger guard, backstrap & grips have sm. sub inspector initials showing that they were unused military parts which are not uncommon for scarce mid war civilian armies. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, all matching, scattered staining & pinprick pitting; bbl., cyl. & backstrap retain 10% plus original blue finish especially strong in protected areas, frame & hammer retain 20-30% muted case color, trigger guard retains about 70% silver plate, grips retain over 80% original varnish w/ heavy edge wear & tacking on butt, mechanics are fine w/ crisp, bright bore.
