RETAILED BY A. FRANCHI IN MONTEVIDEO URUGUAY. Cal. 16 Ga., 2 9/16". S# 70595. Bbl. 27 5/8" fitted w/ slightly raised matted rib. Rear portions of both bbls. are gold inlaid & engraved w/ lg., good looking logos w/ spread eagled chicken engraved at center & “ACIER” above & “COCKERILL” below in gold. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ Belgian black powder proofs & maker’s mark “JF&C” (Jannsen Fills & Cie?). Bottoms of bbls. are stamped “CHOKE”. Case hardened, rnd. bodied top lever hammer action is fitted w/ peninsula back spring locks w/ rebounding serpentine hammers. Action also features square cross bolt & secondary pivoting 3rd fastener in addition to standard Purdey type bolting along w/ side clips. Action & locks are engraved w/ 80% coverage varying size scroll w/ some rose bouquet highlights. Areas around hammer pivots are gold inlaid “A. FRANCHI Y Cia MONTEVIDEO”. Top lever is blued & engraved to match remainder of action. Nicely streaked European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 3/4”over open sided “Redhead” pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip. A vacant silver oval along w/ a sling loop matching that attached to bottoms of bbls. are on toeline. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BORE DIA.: Left .672. Right .672. BORE RESTRICTIONS: Left .025 Mod. Right .003 IC. WALL THICKNESS: Left .031. Right .030. DAH: 2 7/16". DAC: 1 1/2". WEIGHT: 5 lbs 14 oz. CONDITION: very fine, original, as found. Bbls. retaining over 90% original blue w/ some scattered scratches & freckling w/ high edge wear. Action & locks retain 70-80% original case hardening color. Triggerguard has color mostly gone to silver. Trigger blades retain over 80% of their color. Stocks retain approx. 80% original finish w/ some added oil at time of installation of later pad. Checkering shows considerable wear & is fairly dirty. There are numerous light marks & scratches in wood finish. Bores are very fine w/ perhaps a hint of frosting toward breech ends. There are no noted dents or repairs. Action is tight. Locks are fine. (21-3274/MGM). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
