FINE CONDITION ITHACA 5E KNICK MODEL SINGLE BARREL

TRAP GUN. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 402203T (1930). The majority of single barrel trap guns have usually seen some modifications to stock, etc. over the years. Finding an example unaltered since leaving the factory is unusual. This fine Ithaca gun has 32" demi-bloc barrel with matted ventilated rib. Breech face and flats are engine turned. Lump is stamped with S# and grade. Case hardened action with correct marks on watertable is engraved and gold inlaid in usual 5E style, with 80% coverage shaded acanthus having floral highlights within geometric borders. This engraving surrounds game scenes on sides which have flush gold inlaid birds; a struting pheasant on left and bewildered woodcock on right. Bottom of action is engraved with heraldic eagle over "MADE in U.S.A." Ithaca name and address is in arch at top of trigger plate. Blued trigger guard with acanthus on bow, has S# on tang. Crotch figured American walnut, capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 5/8" over Hawkins pad. A vacant gold shield is on toeline. Borderless checkering with arcaded front line is on side panels. Grip checkering is of ususal 5E type with fleur de lis and ribbons. Matching flared ejector forend has Deeley type release. MEASUREMENTS: BBL: Bore Diameter: .731". Restriction: .037" (full). Wall thickness: .035". STOCK: DAH: 1 3/4"+. DAC: 1 7/16". CAST: slightly off. LOP: 14 5/8". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 8 oz. CONDITION: fine as partially refinished. Barrel blue rates about 90% and appears to be original. Engine turning also appears to be original. Case hardening color of action rates near 100% and is most likely a careful rehardening. Blue on trigger guard shows some silvering and flaking at front of bow and at grip. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original varnish finish with added oil over a good quantity of light marks and dings. Checkering shows moderate wear. Bore is bright and shiny with some light striations toward breech end. Action is tight, mechanically fine. (22-5684/MGM). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
