FINE CONDITION PHILADELPHIA FOX AE GRADE SHOTGUN.
Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 25547. (1919). Bbls. 28" No. 3 weight w/ matted game rib, marked for Chromox steel & Fox Philadelphia address on tops. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ S#. grade letter & Fox proof. Case hardened action w/ rotary bolt has all correct markings on water table & features non automatic safety & dbl. triggers. Action is engraved in usual "A" grade shaded acanthus at about 70% coverage. "ANSLEY H. FOX" is in riband on each side. Blued steel trigger guard has S# at grip. Plain American walnut rnd. knob pistol grip stock measures 14" over old ventilated red Hawkins pad. Matching splinter ejector forend has Deeley type release. Bore diameters: left -.727, right -.727. Restrictions: left - .014 (MOD), right - .009 (IC). Minimum wall thickness: left - .032, right - .033. DAH: 3 3/16". DAC: 1 3/4". WEIGHT: 7 lbs. 0 oz. CONDITION: extremely fine. Bbls. retain over 95% original blue w/ only a hint of high edge wear & one or two scattered light scratches. Action retains over 90% original case hardening color, thinning around bottom, silvered on fences & beads. Thumbpiece is somewhat silvered as is top tang around safety. Over 90% blue remains on forend iron & latch. Trigger guard also has over 90% of its blue. Stocks retain approx. 80% original varnish w/ a bit of rubbed in oil, worn through on sharp edges w/ numerous marks. Checkering is lightly worn w/ some missing diamonds in forend. Pad is very fine, nicely fitted many years ago. Bores are very fine w/ minor ring 11" from breech end of right bbl. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong & in time. A fine Fox from before the "Roaring '20's". (20-694/MGM61). CURIO. $1,750-2,500.
