FINE CONFEDERATE S.C. ROBINSON SHARPS CARBINE.
Cal. .52. S# 1291/1885. 38" Overall, 21" rnd. bbl. w/ brass bbl. band & fixed sights, brass buttplate. S. C. Robinson manufactured Sharps carbines for the Confederate government in Richmond Virginia & later sold the business to the Confederate government who continued making carbines w/ out Robinson’s markings. About 2000 of these carbines were made by Robinson 1862-1863. "S.C. ROBINSON / ARMS MANUFACTORY / RICHMOND, VA / 1862" & "1885" found on lock & "S.C. ROBINSON / ARMS MANUFACTORY" forward of rear sight & "RICHMOND, VA / 1862" rear of sight. SN “1291” found on bbl. tang. This is an especially sharp & well-preserved Confederate carbine w/ fine markings. CONDITION: good-very good, appears all original & complete other than missing one tang screw & one trigger plate screw, markings well discerned as seen in photos. Stocks are sound, well fit w/ scattered storage dings. Forestock is especially nice for this model w/ no burnout (not seen before – Confederate drilled hole about an inch forward for unburned powder to drop out), retaining original brass screw escutcheon & brass bbl. band. Mechanically fine w/ well-defined rifled bore. (01-18462/JS). ANTIQUE. $8,000-12,000.
