Rarely seen on early bowies is etched signature in script on verso of blade “James S. Steele”. German silver mounted crown stag grip & well fit original sheath w/ belt hook. CONDITION: very good to fine overall. Couple ciphers in hollow ground sharpened area are only partially discernable. German silver mounts on sheath & grip have matching silver patina, “JSS" crudely scratched on German silver pommel cap. (02-15601/JS). $1,500-2,000.
