& HOWE, ONCE THE PROPERTY OF NORRIS MORGAN W/ CORRESPONDENCE PERTAINING TO THIS GUN FROM SEYMOUR GRIFFIN. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 5/8". S# 10405. Bbls. 26 3/4" demibloc & are engraved "GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK AGT." in milled out portion of full length solid matted rib. Left sides of bbls. are stamped w/ German nitro proofs, proof date of 6/25 & "ROECHLINGS" "ELEKTROSTAHL". Bbl. flats stamped "GERMANY". French gray single Kirsten scalloped back boxlock o/u action features non automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold) & dbl. triggers. Front of action is stamped "GERMANY" & action engraved w/ near full coverage well cut varying sized shaded scroll w/in scroll & line borders. This fine scroll surrounds very well detailed full relief sporting vignettes on sides; a pair of setters on left side & trio of pheasant in woodlands on right. There is no actual maker's name or logo evident on bbls. or action. Blued top lever is inlaid w/ a duke's crown in gold. Steel trigger guard is gold inlaid "J.J. O'C" flanked by scroll on bow. Nicely figured dense European walnut, horn capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 1/4" over French gray scroll engraved steel buttplate. Stock features shadowline right hand cheekpiece, closely spaced point pattern checkering at grip, & flush diamond shaped horn drop points behind side panels. Matching 1 piece forend w/ inlet horn tip has Deely release. MEASUREMENTS: BARRELS: Bore diameter: O .718 U .718. Restriction: O .045 (EXTRA FULL) U .039 (FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: O .018 on right side near top rib, approx. 12" back from muzzle. U .018 sm. area left side behind choke. Otherwise both bbls. measure .022-.025. STOCK: LOP: 14 1/4". DAC: 1 1/2". DAH: 2 3/4". Cast: Neutral. WEIGHT: 6 lbs. 14 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: accompanying gun is a 4 page letter from Seymour Griffin to the Morgans w/ his recollections regarding this gun, Norris Morgan's inventory sheet & paperwork, & a copy of the "Illuminator" journal (cover photo removed) where this gun is pictured. CONDITION: fine original "as found". Bbls. retaining over 80% of what appears to be original blue, silvered on sharp edges, thinned overall. Action retains approx. 90% original French gray w/ no noted areas of staining. Stocks retain over 90% of their original hand rubbed oil finish w/ some oil darkening behind action & a number of scattered marks. Finish wearing thin on forend, checkering lightly worn.
