SCOTT & SON. Cal. 20 Ga. 2 3/4". S# 27043 (1880). The 26 1/4" 2-stripe Damascus bbls. are engraved "W&C Scott & Son Makers & Patentees. London" on a slightly raised concave game rib. Bottoms of bbls. are stamped w/ Birmingham provisional & definitive black powder proofs. Bbls. are also stamped "20B", "23M", and "NOT FOR BALL". Case-hardened top lever action is fitted with front spring locks having rnd.-bodied serpentine rebounding hammers. Action & locks are engraved with about 60% coverage sprays of well-cut scroll. Tails of lockplates are engraved with a dog's head on the left and a duck on the right. Maker's name is on the bottom of each lockplate. Blued trigger guard with a scroll on the bow has a serial number & the Lighthouse logo on the tang. Well-figured & lightly streaked European walnut rnd knob pistol grip buttstock measures 15 1/8" over a brown leather-covered pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip, and a German silver oval is on the toeline. Matching splinter forend has Scott's patent forward lever release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .630", L .630". Restriction: R .020" (MOD), L .015" (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .042", L .040". STOCK: DAH: 2 3/8" DAC: 1 5/8"+. LOP: CAST: approx. 1/4" off. WEIGHT: 6 lb., 2 oz. CONDITION: exceptionally fine. Bbls. retain over 90% of their original brown finish, w/ only a few light marks & scratches. Action & lockplates retain over 85% of their original case-hardening color; the percentage may be higher, but the presence of grime & oil precludes a more accurate description. Stocks retain most of their original oil finish w/ some added oil on butt w/ installation of a newer pad. Checkering is lightly worn. Bores are bright & shiny, w/ no visible problems. Action is tight. Locks are crisp. This is a sweet little gun. (01-21376/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
