GAME GUN WITH GOLD INLAID GAME SCENE ENGRAVING BY A. GIOVANELLI WITH CASE. Cal. 28 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 5857 (1987). The 28" chopper lump barrels with narrow matted game rib have maker's name and address on left barrel. "Flli BERTUZZI" is inlaid in gold. Barrel flats are stamped with 1987 Italian nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Case hardened small sized sidelock action features non automatic safety, bushed strikers and double triggers (front articulated). Action is engraved with near full coverage small shaded scroll which surrounds a scene of flushing woodcock on bottom. "ARMI" "Flli BERTUZZI" is on left side and "ITALY" "GARDONE V.T." is on right. Lockplates are fully engraved with game scenes. A pointer, pointing a flushing grouse in open hedgerow is on left lockplate and three quail fly into cropland on right. The major subjects of all these scenes are flush inlaid in gold. Engraver's signature "A. Giovanelli" is on trigger plate (not to be confused with the well known C. Giovanelli). Single beaded trigger guard with scroll on bow has S# in gold on tang. Superbly marbled, stump figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 5/8" over checkered wood butt with engraved steel heel and toe plates. Very closely spaced point pattern checkering is at grip behind drop points. Matching long splinter ejector forend with Anson release has gold Bertuzzi crest on uncheckered central diamond. Interior is lined in dark olive felt and a leather Bertuzzi label is in lid. Case contains snap caps, cleaning mop and a key. CONDITION: very fine, appears unfired, retaining essentially all original maker's finishes on both wood and metal with only a few handling and assembly marks. Bores are bright and shiny, mechanically crisp. Case is also very fine, as protected by its outer cover which has some rubs, zipper is good. Interior is also fine, label partially detached.
