FINE MARTIAL THIRD MODEL COLT 1851 NAVY REVOLVER.
Cal. 36. S# 52560. Bbl. 7 1/2" oct. Revolver part of first US Army contract, made in 1856, standard configuration, one line New York address. Left side of frame has sm. “COLT’S PATENT” over “U.S.”, one piece walnut grips have inspection cartouches on either side, sm. single inspector initials are found on most every serialized part. This is a fine survivor of the very first army contract for Colt navies. Most of these early guns saw use in the west & during the Civil War w/ few having any original finish. CONDITION: very good overall, appears all matching original. Overall brown patina w/ strong traces of bright blue in protected areas, cyl. retains most of its rolled naval battle scene w/ areas of denting, grips are well fit w/ partially discernible cartouches on both sides. Mechanically fine w/ well discerned rifling in pitted bore. (01-20391/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,500-3,500.
