SPRINGFIELD SPORTING RIFLE WITH ORIGINAL SCOPE. Cal. 30-06. S# 620 (1927). Bbl. 24" star gauge does not have bbl. sight, but does have bead front in sleeved on matted ramp with knurled sight protector. Top of bbl. is engraved "No. 620 GRIFFIN & HOWE, inc. NEW YORK". Caliber is at left rear. Springfield 1903 action has had rear tang reshaped and receiver ring stipled. A Lyman 48 receiver sight is attached to right side of bridge and a Griffin & Howe side scope mount has been installed. Bolt has had body damascened and knob checkered in two panels. Bottom metal is basically unaltered except for checkered thumbprint at front of floorplate. A trigger shoe has been added to single unaltered military style trigger. Steel capped pistol grip stock of very attractive, well marbled and nicely fiddle figured European walnut measures 13 3/4" over checkered and engraved steel buttplate with trap. Trap holds a broken case extractor and cleaning equipment, as well as a small aperture for receiver sight. Stock also features shadowline right hand cheekpiece, horn forend tip, very nicely cut, closely spaced point pattern checkering at grip and around forend and a vacant silver oval on toeline. Rifle is fitted with unmarked narrow leather sling in super grade type swivels which fit stud on toeline and sleeved on eye on bbl. Rifle is mounted with Lyman Alaskan 2 1/2 power scope with crosshair reticle in G&H "Patent Applied for" single lever slide with windage adjustment and matching numbers "20" on slide and base. CONDITION: exceptionally fine, original as found. Bbl. and action retaining over 90% original rust blue, most loss due to hand carry wear on floorplate. Stock retains nearly all of its original hand rubbed oil finish with a few light marks. Silver oval is tarnished. Bore is bright and shiny with sharp rifling throughout. Action is smooth. Scope is very fine, optically clear. Sling is discolored and with verdigris. PROVENANCE: Estate of Frank Glenn Marsh. (22-3372/MGM). CURIO. $2750-3500.
