W/ RHYME. This is among the most pleasing Tansel Family horns you will find w/ rarely seen 4 line rhyme “IN THIS INSTRUCTIVE GLASS – BEHOLD THY LIFE DECAY / OH SPEND NOT THEN THY DAYS – W SINS PERVICIOUS ROAD / REDEEM THY PRECIOUS TIME / ACQUAINT THYSELF WITH GOD”. It was carved by one of Francis Tansel's sons, most likely Timothy (signed Tin). 11" overall; exhibits fine scrimshawed classic well executed Tansel designs, 3 1/2" spread-winged eagle w/ 11 stars & riband reading "E. PLURIBUS UNUM" lg. 3 1/2" well detailed Black Hawk Indian shooting bow & arrow, a running deer, two dogs & President Andrew Jackson w/ top hat on horseback holding riding crop. Classic fish mouth engrailing enhanced w/ v-notch cuts at spout end w/ drapery border, bulbous spout. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: file containing notes, photographs & correspondence. CONDITION: very good overall, well patinaed surface w/ some light colors still present especially blues. On interior curve where horn was worn against body, scrimshaw details are worn away. There are three 1/4" reductions from insect damage at base where nailed to plug & areas lifting between. Well patinaed copper lip to spout applied from its time of use or manufacture. 2 1/2" plug has brass lanyard tack w/ a contemporary rectangular inset of wood.
