BY GASTINNE-RENETTE. Cal. 50, multigroove rifling. S# 192. The 10 3/4" octagon bbl. has central portion w/ transition to 16 sides. Ridges are deeply fluted. This treatment is accented by line border engraving which continues on to muzzle which also has acanthus highlights. Top flat at rear is engraved "GASTINNE-RENETTE". & top left flat at center "a Paris". Top right octagonal flat is engraved "ARQ. de L'EMPEREUR". Bottom of bbl. is stamped w/ numbers 1910 & 1860, probably bore measurements. Serial number is on loop. Nicely filed patent breech is engraved on top to match bbl. Bottom is stamped w/ "GR" crowned cartouche. Breech iron, engraved to match bbl, is fitted w/ U-notch rear sight adj. for elevation. Island lock w/ flat faced serpentine hammer & rebated tail is engraved to match. "GASTINNE-RENETTE" is in central ribbon. Ebony stock w/ lg. checkered grip ends in fluted steel cap. Trigger guard w/ finger spur has shaped finial. Sideplate is also nicely shaped & w/ engraving en suite w/ pistol. Bbl. attaches to stock w/ captive side bolt through oval steel escutcheons. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pistol comes in its original ebony veneered case w/ flush mounted brass central medallion & keylock closure. Case is lined in green cloth & "GASTINNE-RENETTE" information is gold leaf printed in lid. Bottom compartment is French fitted for pistol & a complete array of original accessories, including blued steel rnd. ball mold w/ sprue cutter, ebony handled nipple wrench, turnscrew & cleaning rod; 2 ebony boxes, one 2" in diameter for balls, the other 1 1/4" in diameter for caps; a sm. green leather covered unmarked powderflask & a steel powdermeasure. A blued steel key for adj. rear sight & some rnd. balls are in covered compartment w/ ebony knob. CONDITION: very fine "as found". Bbl. retaining over 90% original blue w/ some high edge wear. Other metal surfaces once bright polish have some soiling & light oxidation to scattered patches of gray. Stock retains nearly all of its original finish, checkering w/ very light wear. There is an old crack in bbl. channel on left side. Exterior of case retains nearly all of its original finish w/ some cracking & lifting toward left rear. Interior cloth is fine w/ some rubs & compressions. Accessories are also fine to very fine. Bore is bright & shiny. Mechanically fine. (01-20886/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,500-4,500.
