BOWIE KNIFE. 15.75" Overall, 10.25" meaty clip point blade w/ choil typical of Hassam. Stag grip, substantial plated iron cross guard w/ sculptured ball finials. This is among the largest Hassam bowies you will find. Accompanied by original German silver mounted leather sheath. Hassam no doubt was the best Boston area Civil War era cutler & his quality is that of a surgical tool. There are several inscribed much smaller knives to Massachusetts Civil War soldiers. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, blade is bright/gray w/ areas of original luster & pinprick pitting. Ricasso maker marked; “KINGMAN / & HASSAM”. Sheath is in matching very good-fine condition, solid supple leather w/ scuffing, German silver drag has few shallow dents & scratches. A frog is still attached to throat missing torn belt loop.
