Cal. 58 RF. NSN. 5,000 Model 1861 Percussion muskets were converted at the Springfield Armory in 1865. Bbl. 37 3/4". Barleycorn front sight w/ single folding leaf rear sight. Upward pivoting breech block is released by thumb latch on right side. Rack & pinion ejector system. Springfield marked lock w/ 1865 date. 3 Band fastened walnut stock w/ clear "ESA" cartouche on left ear. Iron fittings include musket buttplate, trigger guard, bbl. bands, nose cap & tulip tip ramrod. Rear sling swivel is mounted on front of trigger guard bow. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: socket bayonet. CONDITION: bbl. & fittings have dark patina appearance that appears to be smoke related. Action & lock have dark blued appearance w/ smoke related coating. Stock has smoke darkened appearance showing dents, scratches & handling marks w/ crack extending forward of lockplate. Rear portion of bore shows sound rifling while front portion has dark appearance that may be smoke related. (01-19514/DS). ANTIQUE. $600-900.
