BADGE, GAR MEDAL, RIBBONS, LETTERS & MORE. A fine archive of material from a Nathaniel F. Winslow, Jr., a member of the First Rhode Island Detached Militia including his rare Bull Run badge. The badge consists of a top bar that reads, “BULL RUN JULY 21, 1861”, a blue ribbon & shield shaped badge w/ the Rhode Island seal, crossed rifle & cannon & the “F.R.I.D.M.”. / GAR membership badge w/ issue envelope that reads, “GRAND ARMY BADGE, OF CAPTURED CANNON METAL DESIGN PATENTED”. / 2 First Rhode Island D.M. veterans ribbons. / Prescott Dept. of R.I. GAR. ribbon. / Dept. of Mass Post 15. John A. Andrew pictorial ribbon. / Book titled, “The Campaign of the First Rhode Island Regiment in the Spring and Summer of 1861”, published in Providence in 1862. The first page of the book is inscribed “Nathaniel F. Winslow Jr.”. / Approx. 20-25 letters written during the war most of which were sent in patriotic envelopes. Letters have newsy content mentioning several Civil War notables & places. / Lg. group of post Civil War letters & documents relating to military service & civilian life. This is a fine group that has been preserved together for many years & deserves more research. CONDITION: Bull Run medal shows light wear but the ribbon is a bit tattered. GAR medal has some fading to the ribbon. Ribbons show light wear. Book is missing its cover & binding. Letters are in a good hand & easily read. (02-14765/BF). $800-1,200.
