SNYDER COUNTY RIFLE. Cal. 45 rifled bore. NSN. Bbl. 40" full oct., signed “JL” on top bbl. flat. Overall length 55 1/2". Has a 4 piece brass patchbox w/ 7 piercings. The curly maple stock is not carved. Flintlock is extremely late as it is held in place w/ one lock screw, has dbl. set triggers & a brass saddle plate. A very plain, but hard to find, Kentucky rifle from the Snyder County area. Laudenslager was born about 1803 & was the father of Jacob & Cousin of Samuel & William Laudenslager. He worked as a gunsmith near Salem until he moved to Portage County, OH about 1830 where he continued to work as a gunsmith. CONDITION: clean & solid throughout, but the safety on lock is missing.
