FRAMED MILITARIA, PRINTS & RELATED ITEMS.

1) ESCUTCHEONS. 22 Unfinished GAR Record of Service escutcheons measuring approx. 27" x 20 1/2". Some are partially filled in but most simply show the shield w/ ribbon below w/ no added artwork.
CONDITION: 2 have significant tears. A few have corner or edge damage. Many show no wear but have minor staining. (02-15732-3/BF).
2) BILL OF SALE. A framed 1816 Bill of Sale for a ship anchored at Dresden, Massachusetts (Maine) & registered in Boston to a gentleman from Pittston, Massachusetts (Maine). CONDITION: document is not examined out of frame but appears solid w/ general edge wear. Hand is quite legible.
3) PRINT. An 1887 print titled, “The Battle of Champion Hills”. Print is in a frame measuring 30 1/2" x 25". It depicts the rear attack by General John Logan on May 16, 1863 & is copyrighted by Kurz & Allison. CONDITION: frame shows scuffs & scrapes. Colors remain vivid. There are 2 sm. tears at the top of the margin & 1 on the left side.
4) SIGNATURE. A 24" x 14" frame containing a signed note from William A. Buckingham & a Civil War period patriotic cover addressed to William Buckingham. Also included is an engraved portrait of Governor Buckingham w/ a simulated signature. William Alfred Buckingham, 1804-1975, was Governor of Connecticut from 1858-1864. CONDITION: all paper seems to be in good solid condition but was not examined out of frame.
5) U. S. GRANT. An early 24" x 27" frame containing a print by H.W. Berthwrong dated 1885 of Ulysses S. Grant, seated in a 4 star general’s uniform wearing his GAR medal. There is a simulated signature at the base. CONDITION: print shows some foxing & slight water damage.
6) APPOMATTOX. An early 38" x 29 1/2" frame containing a lg. format print depicting the Confederate surrender in McLean House at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. Print is dated 1867 & produced by Major & Knapp of New York. Image is black & white & shows the surrender scene in great detail. CONDITION: print shows some foxing but remains undamaged.
