RIFLE. Cal. 35. NSN. Bbl. 41 1/8" oct reamed out smooth bore, stamped “S. SWEITZER” on top flat, dovetailed rope edge brass blade front sight, fixed rear dovetailed notch sight, brass furniture, engraved sideplate, elegant 4-pc patchbox with 4 piercings, short engraved toe plate. Ketland style lock with partial marking, conversion bolster marked "CF / 1854 / JULY" the apparent date of conversion. Full length stock of tiger stripe maple is fastened by 4 keys. Right side has rectangular lid pierced & segmented patch box w/ feather engraving on lid. Other brass furniture consists of crescent buttplate, toeplate, trigger guard, feather engraved sideplate, nose cap, & faceted thimble. Brass tipped hardwood ramrod is held by 2 faceted pipes. Forearm has incised carving along length of ramrod channel. Toeline of stock has relief carved molded borders. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: includes hand written collector notes. CONDITION: Good-Very good overall. iron parts have dark patina appearance w/ scattered light pitting, lock refiished and recolored. Brass parts have dark aged appearance. Striped maple stock has well disguised wood repair around lock and has old added shellac finish with hand worn patina with scattered cosmetic blemishes. Mechanics are good with dark pitted bore.
