Fancy carved and silver mounted walking stick with the name, “General D.W. Burke” with silver wire inlay at center. The silver cap is inscribed “Uncle Dan from JAC”. The blackened hardwood shaft of cane is carved in floral and geometric motifs. The cane is of lightweight with narrow diameter and measures 33 ½” in overall length. D.W. Burke began his career as a private in the U.S. Infantry and advanced through the ranks inhis 40 years of service, retiring as a Brigadier General. He was recognized for gallantry at the Battle of Gettysburg and received a brevette promotion for meritorious service and was also awarded the Medal ofHonor at the Battle of Shepherdstown, West Virginia. He is buried alongside other American heroes at Arlington National Cemetery. The condition is good with some silver wire missing. Est.: $1,000-$2,000.
